I turned this song on as I started mad cleaning this evening, and didn’t even realize until 45 minutes later that it had been playing continuously on repeat the entire time. That’s either a sign that I was extremely “in the zone” or that this song is so nuanced that you can listen to it over and over again and continue to notice new aspects of it. In this case, I think it was a matter of both. I love songs that combine a sort of forlornness with enduring hope, and this song is just that. I also love a good folk song, and it’s that too.
