I love collecting rocks. At my family’s cabin, I used to spend half my day prowling the Lake Michigan shoreline for brightly colored or intricately patterned treasures. I never really got in trouble as a kid, but I did get yelled at a time or two (or two hundred) for leaving piles of stone all over the house and front deck. I still have a huge ziploc bag of rocks I’ve carried with me for all of my moves over the last four years, just waiting for a craft project.
My favorite kind of rocks to find were tiny pieces of agate. They were never more than the diameter of a dime, but I loved the natural layered designs they sometimes featured. We used to call them soap rocks because their translucent, matted tones reminded us of bars of orange Dial soap.
So it’s no surprise that when I stumbled upon Brook&Lyn’s jewelry over at Simply Lovely, I instantly fell in love. The regal yet simple touch of the rope in their designs transforms my beloved agate from amateur geologist’s dream stone to elegant, bold, sensual fashion statement.
And their ‘body necklace‘ idea is also very intriguing. Not sure if I could pull it off, but you can sure as hell bet that I entered the contest to try it out.
